How tall are our tables – and how long can we make them?

Questions about height seem trivial – until your chairs won't fit under the table. Here are the measurements we work with.

The standard height

The tabletop sits 75–76 cm above the floor, and the clearance underneath (to the frame or legs) is at least 70 cm. That suits standard chairs with a seat height of 45–47 cm and leaves plenty of legroom.

If your chairs have armrests, measure their height: it must be below 70 cm so that the chair can be pushed right under the table.

Tall tables and bar counters

For a bar or kitchen island, we work at a height of 90–110 cm, depending on the stools you choose. The same slabs, the same finishes – only the construction changes.

How long can a table be?

We make tables up to 4 metres long from a single piece, depending on the logs available. Beyond 3.2 metres, one-piece slabs become rare and the price rises considerably. For very long tables, we can join two slabs from the same log with continuous grain – you can see the join, but it looks intentional rather than patched.

Tabletop thickness

Between 4 and 6 cm. Under 4 cm, a large table looks flimsy; over 6 cm, it becomes hard to handle and expensive without offering much more in return.

We first air-dry the wood, then season it under controlled conditions for 4–5 years until it reaches the right moisture content for a table that stays straight.
